You’ve found your true love and now you’re gonna get married. You’re planning all the things for your wedding and that includes the wedding invitation.

As Tracy says in her blog, invitations are one of the essential parts of planning a wedding because they set the tone of what guests are to expect on the wedding day while at the same time helping them prepare for your event.

There are big questions about wedding invitations:

  1. How large is the wedding?

If you want a small wedding, you might want to consider having smaller and calligraphed invitations to set the tone. For a bigger wedding, it could be larger and grander stationery.

  1. Is there ceremony and reception formal or informal?

If the occasion is a formal affair, you probably should not go too wild with colours and embellishments. Traditional wedding invitations are printed in black ink on white, ecru, or ivory cardstock to match the bride’s wedding dress.

  1. Is the celebration modern or traditional?

Is your style modern or traditional? Contemporary styling includes things like a square instead of rectangular invitations, rounded corners, or having the text aligned left or right instead of centre.

  1. Is there a theme for the wedding?

Wedding invitations are a great place to incorporate your theme. If you’re holding a garden wedding, choose a green or flowery motif to be printed on everything from save-the-date to thank-you notes. If you’re holding a travel theme wedding, choose a passport or postcard type of invitation. Choosing a special font to complement the theme is subtle, but effective. Another simple idea is to reiterate the colour theme in your invitations.

  1. What season is the wedding?

For seasonal invitations, choose deeper colours for winter weddings, and save the pastels for spring and summer parties.
