Are you  a big fan of buying leather products such as bags, bracelets, belts or whips in a small local store near you and notice those thin leather strips being tied together to create a design? Of course, the workers didn’t just use a  pair of scissors to cut them and make them thin. Do you know what they use? They use Lacing Gauges. Lacing Gauges are used to cut sheets of leather into smaller strips to create a Leather Lace. And from Leather Laces, several products can be made.  These products includes whips, bags, plaited leather bracelets and sandals and also belts.

Are you now wondering what Lacing Gauges looks like and how it is used? Well Lacing Gauges are made of different materials such as plywood and acrylic and comes in different sizes for their thickness. At Create-A-Lase, we have a standard set of Lacing Gauges and it includes different sizes. We have 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm Acrylic Lacing Gauges and at the same time, we can also customize lacing gauges for you, depending on what you need.

So, how are Lacing Gauges used?  When you are making leather made products, the quality and thickness of the leather is very important. The thickness of the leather affects the measurements, weight, and most important, the flexibility of movement. Once the leather is too thick, it might be too difficult  to braid or interlace the different strands and come up with the desired design. To measure and determine the size and weight of the leather using the Lacing Gauge, simply slide the gauge over the edge of the leather. Have your sharp knife ready and to taper strands,  cut to right through the length of the strand with the largest gauge you need, then work down through the smaller guages.

Interested to have one? Well, Create-A-Lase can make one for you! We use high quality acrylic material for you. We make sure that every lacing gauge is created perfectly and precisely for a professional to make high quality products that consumers will surely love.
