I am going to show you how to make tiny word cutouts from a laser cutter. Here’s at Create-A-Lase, we have a Trotec Laser cutter that gives quality products to our amazing customers. This instructable goes through the process of selecting the material, working in the software, cutting out the letters, and what you can do with the word cutouts (and future applications). Our customers normally use these word cutouts for decorations. You can paint them though, we particularly like the laser cut look!
Step 1: Making the Design in the Computer
We use the CorelDraw program to create my template which we use to laser cut out. I first enter the words I wanted in the font I like or the customer’s need.
Step 2: Choosing the Material
We Can Cut and Engrave all kinds of materials including:
- Acrylic, Wood, Plastics, Silicone, Rubber, Fabrics, Paper and Cardboard
We can Engrave but not cut materials including:
- Stainless Steel, Brass, Aluminium, Anodised Metals, Glass, Stone, Ceramic and Marble
Step 3: Laser Cutting
There are 2 ways I can Laser engrave:
- Vector, which the laser follows the lines I draw to cut or engrave depending how much power I set them to be.
- Raster Engrave, which the laser starts at top left and moves left to right then down the page until the image has been engraved. I use different colours in engraving to command the laser to do different processes.
The settings usually are Black fill = raster and can do scales of grey to create a black and white image when engraved.
Red hairline outline = vector cut or I can set other colours to either Raster or vector at different amounts of power.
Step 4: Finished Product
I made this laser cut as decoration for a cake; though the same application can be used to create bigger words, art designs, stencils, and just about anything. You can create these words into earrings, key chains, bookmarks, or just about anything you would like! Feel free to ask any questions about the process.
